ProfoundSyntax is designed to work with modern web browsers and common assistive technologies, but exact behavior can vary by browser, operating system, screen reader, extensions, and the accessibility of member-submitted content.
Common Screen Readers
- Windows: NVDA and JAWS are commonly used with modern browsers.
- macOS and iOS: VoiceOver is built into Apple devices.
- Android: TalkBack is commonly available through Android accessibility settings.

Start with Skip to Content
When keyboard focus first enters the page, use the Skip to content link to move past repeated header navigation and directly to the main page content.
Navigate by Headings and Landmarks
ProfoundSyntax uses headings and navigation regions to help organize pages. Screen-reader heading and landmark shortcuts can make it faster to move between the header, navigation, main content, sidebars, Community controls, and footer.
Menus, Drawers, and Accordions
Expandable controls are intended to expose their expanded or collapsed state. Use the control’s accessible name to identify its purpose, activate it with the normal keyboard command, and use Escape where supported to close an open interface.
Threads, Replies, and Dynamic Updates
Community actions can update without a full page refresh. Important status information uses live announcements or status regions where appropriate. If a newly posted reply, notice, translation, moderation state, or other dynamic result is not announced correctly, please report the specific action through Help.
Code Blocks
Developer content can include code, commands, paths, identifiers, and other technical strings. Code blocks are intentionally kept separate from ordinary prose, and ProfoundSyntax translation features protect code-like content from being rewritten. Depending on your screen reader, character-by-character or punctuation settings may improve the reading of source code.
Keyboard Navigation
Use Tab and Shift + Tab to move through interactive controls. Enter and Space activate controls according to their standard browser behavior. Visible focus styling is intended to help sighted keyboard users track the active element.
Mobile Web
On iOS, VoiceOver can be enabled in Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver. On Android, TalkBack can be enabled through the device Accessibility settings; menu names can vary by device manufacturer and Android version.
Report a Screen-Reader Barrier
If a control has no useful name, a focus order is confusing, a dynamic update is not announced, or content cannot be reached with your screen reader, use Help and describe the page, browser, screen reader, and action involved.
