About this Project
About the Project
DamnBlackLink: Ashline Relay is a work-in-progress, single-player 2D browser platformer set in a storm-swept transit district.
The title is a working name and has not undergone trademark clearance.
You play as a Black relay runner wearing a teal field coat, amber scarf, and copper boots, equipped with a pulse gauntlet. Your mission is to recover three relay cores, navigate broken walkways and patrol drones, and restore the transit gate.
Gameplay Features
- Side-scrolling exploration with a tracking camera.
- Variable-height jumps, coyote time, and jump buffering.
- Directional dashing with a cooldown.
- Pulse combat against patrolling drones.
- Three relay objectives that unlock the exit.
- Armor, checkpoint respawning, and persistent relay progress.
- Parallax scenery, particle effects, and a completion screen.
Technology
Built with plain JavaScript, HTML Canvas, and CSS.
The game uses a fixed 120 Hz simulation with capped catch-up work after frame stalls. All current graphics are drawn in code, with no external runtime dependencies or asset downloads.
Controls
- Move: A/D or left/right arrow keys.
- Jump: W, up arrow, or Space.
- Short jump: Release the jump button early.
- Dash: Shift or K.
- Pulse strike: J or X.
- Pause: P or Escape while the game has focus.
Basic on-screen pointer controls are included. Keyboard play is recommended until mobile testing is complete.
How to Play
Collect all three gold relay cores, then reach the transit gate at the far right.
Amber beacons restore armor and save your respawn position. Falling into the storm or losing all armor returns you to the latest checkpoint.
Activated relays and defeated drones remain cleared after respawning. Restarting the level resets that progress.
There is no countdown deadline. The displayed timer measures active simulation time for comparing runs.
Development Status
This is an early playable prototype, not a finished release.
JavaScript syntax validation and 12 automated logic checks passed during preparation. Real-browser playtesting, mobile testing, accessibility improvements, and branding review remain outstanding.
